March Field Team Training

Our Field Team Training will be this Saturday, March 10th, starting at 10:00 am. We will train at the Momentive Employee Park. The gate will be open at 9:45.

I’m still working on the details but we plan to train on clue awareness and search patterns. We may throw in some compass, GPS, IC and communications. We plan to be outside exercising on these topics.

The canine handlers are planning to do some dog training directly AFTER the field training at the Arvilla Community building.

Call or email for directions or more information.

Thank you,

February Field Training

We are set to have our February field training this Saturday the 10th at the Momentive Park starting at 10am.

We will start with a medical training on “bleeding control” instructed by Dr. McClure.

After this we will be discussing the broad subject of “command staff support functions”. For this reason we would like to send out a special invitation to all the folks who have offered many years of support including those who cook, provide weather support, help with equipment, provide communications. This is especially important to those of you who have trained but are not currently able to go out in the field. We plan to start providing more of this specialized type of support training, including search management training in the very near future.

As in the past, we will do an undetermined training that will take us to the field. We haven’t decided if it will be on map and compass or clue detection but we will come up with something to get us outdoors.

As usual the canine handlers are planning to do some additional training with their dogs after the field training.

Call or email with any questions

February SAR Training

We are planning the next field team training for February 10th. Location and details will be sent out next week.

The canine handlers plan to train tomorrow, Saturday the 3rd, at our PC warehouse. They will start at 11:00am. All handlers and those who wish to work with them are welcome to attend.

We are also planning a workshop for the weekend of February 17&18. This will focus on HRD (humans remains detection) in buildings. A professional instructor is coming in to lead the training. Please let me know if you are interested in attending.

January Search and Rescue Training

Although plans had to be changed last week we are on schedule for our January SAR field training. We plan to meet at the Arvilla Community Center this Saturday, Jan 20th at 10:00am. Call or email me if you need directions.

The plan is to have Dr. McClure do a presentation on “Lightning” and how it affects search and rescue.

Directly after this Don Williams will give us direction on the NASAR forms involved with SAR.

Since we will be in an area isolated from landline and cell service we plan to briefly go over the WV Homeland Security State Interoperable Radio System (SIRN). We will attempt to contact WV DHS and some local 911 centers. This will allow us to send and receive emergency calls even though we are out of cell service.

We are also planning to do some map training. This will lead us outdoors, so please bring your pack and outdoor clothing.

After the field training the canine handlers plan to get together and work their dogs in the same area.

Please call or email me with any questions.
